Manchester City
Founded: 1880
Ground: City of Manchester S, Manchester
Manager: Mark Hughes
During the 2006/07 season there were times when it seemed that some Manchester City players forgot what the purpose of playing football is. Talented Joey Barton focused on his expanding disciplinary sheet. The opposition’s goal became elusive, and the Citizens couldn't find a way in.
29 goals in 38 games, of which only 10 were at home (a dismal new record) was the tally of the 2006/07 season. The despair of the supporters is very understandable.
The financial backing of the former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is proving to be critical, as The Citizens can easilt fund the bringing in of big names such as Brazilian striker Jo. Mark Hughes took the place of the disappointing Eriksson, and if City will show the same spirit as Hughes's Blackburn did - they might even find themselves fighting for a Champions League spot. The only problem is that Shinawatra is quite unpredictable, so Mark Hughes will have to make sure he's always calm and happy. Eriksson failed doing so and see where he's now...
Bottom Line: The expectations are high in the Eastlands.
